Who...What is Twilight?

Ok, I do know what Twilight is. I do not, however, see the appeal in it. I first heard about the series while reading through Clever Girl Goes Blog (I'm pretty sure it was before the movie came out... maybe) and I thought it sounded like something that would completely disinterest me. (I've never been a fan of sci-fi or fantasy - both of which I think these books fall under). Soon after, the crazyness of the Twilight movie and Rob Pattinson was everywhere.

I have issues with both.

To start, the movie and books. Everyone I've talked to in the last 2 weeks has devoted days to reading this series of books and raves about how amazing it is. "I spent most of the time rooting for them to kiss, rather than enjoying the rest of the story" is a response I received when I asked why they liked the book so much. This made me think - is this story just a guilt free, romance novel that you can feel more confident/comfortable telling people you read than something with Fabio on the cover (which, of course, is something you hide under your mattress and never admit to). I guess I can't really criticize a book I've never read, but I plan on keeping my Twilight virginity based mainly on the fact that everyone and their mom has fallen in love with it (call it rebellion, call it stubborn... whatevs).

Rob Pattinson. Why all the fuss? Before his most recent (much needed!) hair cut, he did not ooze attractiveness whatsoever. He almost looks like a disheveled, thinner version of Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass) without the rich, bad-ass attitude. Not to mention, I hear his performance in Twilight left some to be desired (which went mostly unnoticed because of the infatuation with the character he played).

I'm hoping that by the time Twilight 2 comes out, most of the hooplah has died down about the story and Rob Pattinson has proven himself disrespectful to women or animals or a bigot so that his face and name is not plastered everywhere I turn.

Child #18 has popped

I'm not sure if anyone really watches the show, but the Duggar family (17 Kids and Counting) have counted up to 18 on the 18th of December.

Jon and Kate Plus 8 (the original 'we have a ton of kids and this is how we live' TLC show) has a place in the world as people are interested in what you do with six 3 year olds at one time, in addition to Maddy (who in herself, has the personality of four 7 year olds), and of course Cara. Not to mention, the hilarity of Jon on the show (which I'm positive he is unaware of because I think he's just really zoned out most of the time). However, the 17 Kids and Counting show simply follows a family around that must be insane and has no special contribution to... well, anything. Having never really watched the show, I'm not sure what they do for an income (besides milking TLC for everything they can) but how can anyone afford to have 18 children, plus 2 adults. (I read somewhere that they go through 6 gallons of milk a week which is something like $30 a week just on milk - damn)

Not that I'm for the control of people by a government, but I feel that in the case of this family, someone needs to step in and say "No more kids for you. You exceeded your quota by, oh...15!" Think of all the children that are born and placed in foster homes/orphanages daily that these people could have taken in and helped get off the 'streets', instead of continuing to create them themselves. Help others, Duggar family, and quit procreating!

Oh, and get some updated clothing. You can find things that look like they were designed in the 21st century for cheap too ya know!

Dear Direct TV

Dear Direct TV,

Just a quick note to let you know how much I despise your current "Upgrade" commercial that runs at least once an hour on every channel imaginable. Because of your choice in celebrity representatives (ahem, Beyonce), I have made the official decision to never (I know, never say never - but I'm pretty sure I mean this one) select Direct TV as my cable provider.

IF you were to immediately remove this commercial from any and all TV channels, as well as erase the increasingly annoying jingle (lemme lemme lemme upgrade ja, grade ja) from my memory, I will reconsider the above. Until then, rot in hell.

Sincerely,
Very Unhappy TV watcher

Give it a rest already

Don't get me wrong, I love Jennifer Aniston. I am, however, getting tired of hearing about how "tired" she is of hearing and talking about Brad and Angelina. In the latest GQ magazine (which she is again naked on the cover) she makes sarcastic remarks about the friendly-ness of their relationship. This is the nth time she has been quoted in magazines (and not tabloid type magazines... real $6 a pop magazines) about how she wishes people would lay off the Brangelina topic... but yet she continues to have quotes about it.

When Brad and Jen first split up, I (along with most of the female population) couldn't believe our ears. How could he leave Jen for someone like Angelina... she's so not his type...what is he thinking? Fast forward 6ish years and no one has a hard time understanding why, blaming him for doing it, or really caring anymore. This has proven unfortunate for Jen. I believe she would have come out on top had Friends still been a running show and she was still in the limelight as America's Sweetheart. She was pushed on the back burner as the world dissected Brangelina and tried to figure out how things were going to turn out. Jen took the high road for a very long time, choosing not to comment for years... but has somehow forgotten her morals and slipped into the media's grasp for rumors, backstabbing and stinging quotes. (The bombing of most of her movies and the release of her latest one pending, the lack of morals may be in hopes of raising interest and therefore ticket sales but who really knows.)

Jen, if you're reading this. Go back to "no comment" or the ease of a cold shoulder when asked about Brad and/or Angelina. Even if people aren't jumping on the bandwagon to choosing your side, you won't be losing any fans either (which you will soon if you continue to talk about it).

I don't know if I can wait until Jan. 5th

Tonight's episode of Gossip Girl was the saddest and best one yet, until the last 5 minutes. It should have ended with Blair hugging Chuck and everyone with a heart watching, crying right along with him (but those silly writers don't know when to stop).

I was amazed by the bombshell of why Lily was in a hospital, as I really had no inclination as to what could possibly matter so much (everyone goes a little crazy sometimes...no?). However, I hated that Chuck left Blair in the middle of the night, with a predictable note nonetheless. I'm also not a fan of ...what's his name, Serena's new b/f (it's never a good thing when a major character for the last 3 episodes has a non-rememberable name), and I suppose the hopeless romantic in me can't wait for Serena and Dan to get through themselves and work it out once and for all.

The next new episode doesn't come out until January 5th, 2009. It might as well be 2050 for that matter. It's completely understandable of having a holiday vacation for the cast and staff of Gossip Girl, but they shoot episodes in advance anyway so couldn't they have had 1 more week of work before Christmas (I don't think it's too much to ask since even schools are required to attend until the day before Christmas Eve)? I guess I'm just grumpy because I want to see what's going to happen.

And what was with Chuck teetering on the edge of a building in the preview... AHHH.

Number One - Eminem

Typically, I don't like rap. One of the only rappers I've ever listened to with regularity (something that's not played on the radio constantly) is Eminem. Maybe because of how commercialized/common he was while I was in my angry-adolescent phase and how "cool" it was to like him. Anywho... his new song leaked on the internet about a week ago. (I don't understand why they use the word leaked - why not just state it as it is: "Eminem or one of his people decided it was time for the public to care about his music again and released it exclusively for internet usage.")

After giving it a listen, I'm positive it is not the best music he has ever done. Which means, in my eyes, he has already failed at his mission of 'reminding everyone how well he raps'. If you ignore the random and multiple outbursts of talking throughout the song by Dr. Dre?, the chorus is extremely hard to make out and consists of Eminem using his funny voice (which is what I have dictated his tone/pitch based on the first popular use of it in the song Just Lose It where he has the comical Pee-Wee Herman laugh). The song has been given credits of being produced by Dr. Dre, while the singing is Eminem. While listening, it seems as though Dr. Dre did as much singing (if not more - considering most of Eminem's vocals are the chorus) and I always thought of producers as a behind the scenes, silent partner, moral support character - guess I was wrong in the world of rap.

In a nut shell, I don't think this song is what he should have sent out in order to grab the attention of his fans (or former fans, seeing as how long it's been since his last song) and recreate a "need" for his rap. Sorry Marshall.

Here's the song if you want to listen for yourself.

How much do I loathe Speidi

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag, I mean Pratt, I mean... I don't care. I used to be a huge fan of The Hills (up until I no longer had MTV - again, curse you) but the longer it's been since I've watched the show, the more I realize I don't need it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get away from the media whoreness that is Speidi.

What gets me the most of these two... their ability to get people to care (whether hate or love) so strongly that it's impossible not to have an opinion about what they do. Granted, most people (with a brain) absolutely hate everything that is Spencer Pratt, but his love for himself gets him through the night and keeps him pushing for record breaking douchey-ness. And the world can't seem to stop listening or paying attention.

The latest, did they or didn't they elope to Mexico, her mom says - he says, the ugliest wedding rings ever created. (*Dipping my head in a vat of hot wax to cover my eyes and ears from the ickyness that is them.) I was bombarded with pictures of Speidi on their "honeymoon" while on my morning stroll through celebrity gossip cyberspace. I won't even bother with how each "candid" picture of them is carefully staged, but it makes me wonder how they are behind closed doors (that doesn't happen to have a 'Come on in paps, we were just about to hang out and flash our perfectly proportioned bodies in scraps of cloth around causally' sign hanging on it). I can not think of a single situation that I, or anyone I know, have ever been in that would be captured on film so flawlessly.

Although I do not approve of their relationship (or of how it came about - i.e. Spencer plotting to get on the show and using any means to do it, ahem Heidi) I do think that they may...may love each other. But I'm definitely not saying that Heidi's mom is wrong in any way, shape or form:
"I would like to see a blood test from Mexico. It wouldn’t surprise me if he had her drugged. Spencer has tried to cut everyone out of her life. I've been honest with Heidi, and it's caused our relationship to decline. I'm more devastated about that than the marriage, because I'm confident the marriage won't work out."

My prediction for the fall of Spencer and Heidi Pratt - 1 year, 3 months. (mainly because there is another season of The Hills and I'm sure MTV will encourage/pay them to remain married for 1 season.) And not that I ever wish anyone harm, but may these two eventually fall of the face of the media planet and never to be heard from again.

Welcome to Gabby GG - Britney's Back Bitch

Hello to all of you in cyberspace. Welcome to the beginning of something wonderful... or something to read anywho. This blog will be catered to your need of gossip, whether it be music, celebrity or the couple down the street (reading about strangers is still magnificently fulfilling). Feel free to leave comments, e-mails and requests of certain topics!!

On with the blog...

While the rest of the world is talking about the "comeback" of Britney Spears, I thought I'd get in on the topic, too. Through the graciousness of the Internet (and lack of MTV in my neck of the woods - yes, curse you MTV), I watched 4/5 parts of For the Record. While Britney was melting in front of our eyes, courtesy every media outlet in the United States (including CNN, which if you ask me is ricockulous), I was one of the first people to read the articles, watch the clips of her at gas stations and judge her decisions for what I took them as. At some point during her breakdown, I was able to pull back from the flooding of Britneyness and, although it was not apparent or useful to her whatsoever, I decided I was going to stop listening and paying attention to what was happening and leave her to figure things out herself. (If I had the power, I would have encouraged several thousand others to do the same but sadly I do not.)

I hadn't given much attention to what had been happening with her for months (which believe you me, was hard to do with my addiction to celebrity gossip) and was amazed when I started picking up on the positive blurbs and pictures that were being shown of her gathering her life back together. I am fully pulling for her complete "recovery" back to her old self and hope, for her sake, that it's a attainable goal. Judging (yes, I'm back to judging her) by her documentary, she is getting close to feeling human again and although there were many moments where I wanted to cry with her and tell her it'll all be ok, I think she realizes that the feelings and emotions she's going through are healthy and necessary. No one is happy all the time, no one gets everything they want and there is ALWAYS someone to answer to (albeit, at 27 years old, I would seriously contemplate ending it if I had to answer to my dad for the rest of my life).

As I wait for Part 5/5 of For the Record to get posted online, I raise my glass of semi-flat, luke warm Pepsi to Britney Spears and wish her all that I wish for myself. Good luck girl!

Gabby GG

P.S. If you are having as much trouble finding her documentary as I did, here are the links I used. Enjoy -
